What to Expect at Crest Hill Clinic – Chiropractic Care near Joliet, IL
Your first appointment
What Happens at Your First Visit?
Most new patients at Crest Hill Clinic near Joliet come in not quite sure what to expect — and that is completely normal. The first visit is not rushed. Plan for about 45 to 60 minutes. We will take time to understand your history, assess what is going on, and explain what we find before any treatment begins.
You do not need a referral to schedule. Call us at (815) 439-2121 or use the form on our contact page.
What to bring: any recent imaging (X-rays, MRI) on a disc or printed report, a list of current medications, and your insurance card. If you are coming for a work injury or auto accident, bring the relevant claim or case number.
Step by Step: Your First Appointment
1. Health History
We start by listening. Dr. Balsier or one of our chiropractors will go through your health history, current symptoms, how long the problem has been present, and what makes it better or worse. There are no rushed intake forms and no assumptions — we want to understand your specific situation.
2. Physical Examination
We conduct a hands-on assessment including range-of-motion tests, postural analysis, and orthopedic and neurological testing as relevant to your symptoms. If X-rays are indicated, we can take them on-site with our digital X-ray equipment — you will not need to schedule a separate appointment.
3. Your Care Plan
Once we have a clear picture of what is going on, we explain what we found and what we recommend — including which services are appropriate, how frequently you might benefit from visits, and what a realistic improvement timeline looks like. We do not offer one-size-fits-all protocols. Your plan is based on your exam findings.
4. First Treatment
In most cases, treatment begins the same day as your exam. Chiropractic adjustments are tailored to your comfort level and to what the exam reveals. Additional therapies — soft tissue work, spinal decompression, physiotherapy modalities — may be included as part of your plan. We walk you through everything before we begin.
What Do Follow-Up Visits Look Like?
Follow-up visits are typically 20 to 30 minutes. The focus is on your adjustment and any supporting therapies in your care plan. We check in on your progress regularly and adjust the plan if your response calls for it. As you improve, we typically reduce visit frequency rather than keep you on a fixed schedule indefinitely.
If your case involves our physical therapist, nurse practitioner, or a specialist consultation, those appointments are coordinated through the same clinic — you do not need to be referred out to a different facility for most needs.
What If I Am Nervous About Chiropractic?
That is worth mentioning before your visit. Some patients come in with concerns about specific techniques — particularly for the neck. We accommodate those concerns. If you prefer a gentler approach, we have options that do not involve high-velocity adjustments.
The most important thing is that you tell us your concerns at the start of the visit. We do not pressure patients into techniques they are uncomfortable with, and we will always explain what we are doing and why before we do it.
